This is a 1-1/4 inch black plastic extension wand, part 32-1937-69, that connects between the hose and the floor or hand tool. It fits the Eureka and Sanitaire 2812A, and the Oreck BB850AW, BB870AW, BB870AWB, BB880AB, and BB880AW.
A wand's job is simple, carry airflow from the hose to whatever tool is attached, and its failure points are just as simple: a crack along the tube or a loose fit at either end. Either one lets air in at the joint instead of pulling it through the tool, so suction drops right at the attachment even though the machine itself still runs at full power.
