Product details

Part 538 is the replacement filter for Lux's Discovery upright vacuum, positioned in the airflow path to trap dust before it reaches the motor and exhaust.

Upright vacuums of this era relied more on filter media and less on multi-stage cyclonic separation, so the filter carries a larger share of the filtration load than it would on a newer bagless design. That makes the change interval matter more: a filter left in place too long does not just lose efficiency gradually, it can restrict airflow enough that the motor works harder and runs warmer than it should for extended cleaning sessions.

Because these older upright designs pull air through a single filtration path rather than splitting the load across a pre-filter and a separate HEPA stage, there is less margin for a partly clogged filter to hide behind. A drop in performance on this machine is a more direct signal of filter condition than it would be on a multi-stage design, which makes routine checks a straightforward way to catch problems early.

  • Part: 538
  • Fits: Lux Discovery upright vacuum
  • Function: primary filtration ahead of the motor
  • Change when: suction feels reduced or the filter looks discolored, roughly every 6 to 9 months

If the filter looks visibly torn or has collapsed against itself rather than just dirty, replace it immediately rather than trying to clean it, since a damaged filter can let debris reach the motor directly.
