Hayden Filter Post Retainer...
$6.99
Product details
Hayden central vacuum power units hold their filter in place on a center post, and this small retainer, sold as part 818716, is the piece that clamps everything together on the Hayden 3600, 6000 and 7000.
Age is usually what takes a retainer out rather than daily operation. The plastic grows brittle over the years, and it takes only a little extra twist while pulling an old filter free to crack it or snap off a locking tab. Once it can no longer hold its grip, the filter drifts free on the post, and unfiltered air starts slipping past the media on a route that bypasses it entirely. That shows up as dust where dust should not be, past the filter stage entirely, in the exhaust stream, or occasionally puffing straight out of the canister while the system is running.
Because this retainer sits inside the canister where it rarely gets a direct look, a cracked one can go unnoticed for a long stretch of time. Weaker pull noticed at every inlet in the house right after a routine filter swap is worth checking against this small part before suspecting the filter itself, the hose runs, or the power unit motor.
