Part SC-FH5 is a pleated HEPA cartridge built for the Sanyo SC-X1000P, standing in for the cartridge the machine shipped with and handling the final filtration stage before the vacuum exhausts air back into the room.

A pleated cartridge offers a large surface area folded into a small housing, which gives it a long service life, but that same folded surface loads gradually and unevenly with use. Airflow narrows as the pleats fill, suction fades even while the motor runs at normal speed, and a fully loaded cartridge can eventually let fine particles pass through rather than trapping them.
