The SC-FH2 is a HEPA filter for the Sanyo SC-X2100P, sold one to a package as a replacement for the machine's original element.

To be labeled HEPA, a filter has to trap at least 99.97 percent of particles at 0.3 microns, and it can only do that while the pleats are still open enough to let air through evenly. Once dust has packed the media solid, the vacuum has to pull harder just to move the same amount of air, and some of what the filter is meant to catch begins working its way back out through the exhaust instead of staying trapped inside it.

  • Tip: hold the filter up to a light source; pleats you can no longer see light through clearly are packed solid and ready to be swapped
