Past discolouration, the usual failures are a split around the hinge boss and a latch edge worn round, either of which stops the door sitting properly closed. Both start small. A panel that needs an extra push to latch today is a panel that will be standing proud in a few months, and once it stops locating correctly the catch wears faster still because it is being met off square. Fitted complete, the cover restores a flush, positive close without anything being carried over from the old one.
