The maroon head light bumper for Kirby uprights, part 161988A. It is the soft trim that finishes and protects the headlight area at the front of the machine, sized and coloured for the maroon-finish models it was made for.

Bumpers of this vintage rarely wear out from use — they perish. The material stiffens, shrinks away from its groove and eventually cracks or drops off, leaving the housing edge bare to every knock the machine takes, and a rattle you can hear over the motor.

Fitting a fresh bumper puts the cushion back and returns the front of the machine to its original finish. It presses into place by hand. Because Kirby used this trim across more than one machine and colourway, match part number 161988A and the maroon finish against your own before ordering rather than going by appearance alone.
