F251 is a replacement HEPA filter for Miele canisters: the S4 Galaxy series and the S5, S6 and S8 machines. It is an aftermarket equivalent to Miele's SF-HA 50 and SF-AH 50 AirClean filters and the AAC50 Active AirClean, and the media is charcoal activated, so it handles odors as well as fine dust.
The filter measures 7-1/4 inches long by 3-1/2 inches wide and 1/8 inch thick, and sits in the exhaust slot behind the machine's cover.
You usually smell a spent filter before you measure one. The exhaust picks up a stale note, and dust that used to stay inside the machine starts settling on furniture after a run. Allergy and asthma households feel it soonest. Check your Miele's exhaust bay against those dimensions before ordering.
