The end cap for the Hoover C1429, part 41435070. It closes off the end of the housing, a small moulding, but one that forms part of the machine's sealed air path rather than pure trim.
End caps crack because they sit at the corner that meets the door frame. Once one is split or missing, the housing draws air in where it should not, which shows up as suction that seems fine at the hose but weak where it matters, and the opening lets dust and grit into the body around components that are better off without either.
It snaps into place, so this is a five-minute repair rather than a service job. Check the edge of the housing where the cap seats while you have it apart, because a new cap will not sit tight on a lip that has been damaged.
