Part 612400S is the actuating rod that links the foot pedal to the power switch on a Kirby upright, supplied five to a pack. Press the pedal and this rod is what carries the movement up to the switch itself.
When the rod bends, wears at its ends, or works out of position, the pedal loses its crispness. You press and nothing happens; or the machine only starts if you stamp on it; or it comes on and drops out again as you tip the handle back. All of that reads like a dead switch and is actually mechanical, which is why switches get replaced for no reason.
It spans a long run of machines: Generation 3, G4, G5, GSix, Ultimate G, Diamond Edition, Sentria, Sentria II, Avalir, Avalir 2 and Avalir Platinum. Five to a pack suits a bench that sees Kirbys regularly.
