Product details
Carbon brushes are the wear items inside a vacuum motor. They ride on the commutator and carry current to the spinning armature, grinding themselves away as they do it. Part 118076A is the brush for Kirby's classic uprights, measuring 1/4 by 3/8 by 3/4 inches.
It covers the Classic I CR, Classic III 2CB and Classic Omega 1CB, the Tradition and Tradition 3CB, and the Heritage I, Heritage II, Heritage II Legend and Legend II.
Worn brushes show up as a motor that has lost power, runs intermittently, or throws visible sparking at the commutator. Anything shorter than about a quarter inch of carbon left is due for replacement, and brushes are best changed in pairs so both bed in evenly. Unplug the machine, and inspect the commutator surface while the brushes are out.
