Kirby motors run on a pair of carbon brushes that press against the commutator and wear away over the life of the machine. Part 107189A supplies a genuine Kirby carbon brush together with its holder, so spring tension and seating are correct rather than approximated.
Worn brushes announce themselves. The motor loses power or cuts in and out, and you may see sparking through the vents. If a brush measures much under a quarter inch of usable carbon it is due, and both sides should be done together, since a new brush working against a worn one wears the commutator unevenly.
This fits the Kirby Generation 3, G4, G5, G Six, Ultimate G, Diamond Edition, Sentria and Sentria II, and the Avalir, Avalir 2 and Avalir Platinum. On a machine that has run for decades, brushes are the cheapest way to get the power back.
