Supplied as a five-pack, these genuine OEM Kirby carbon brushes (Part #602889A) are the Gen III right short brush and holder units that ride against the motor commutator to transfer power. Each brush comes with its holder for a straightforward fit.
Carbon brushes are a normal wear item, and worn ones cause reduced suction, intermittent operation, or visible sparking inside the motor as contact breaks down. Once a brush wears below about a quarter inch, it should be replaced before it damages the commutator. Fresh brushes restore full, steady power to the motor.
