These are the side bracket guide blocks, Kirby part 178797S, supplied two to a pack. They ride in the slide bracket that carries the nozzle height adjustment on the Generation series and everything built on that chassis since: Generation 3, G4, G5, GSix, Ultimate G, Diamond Edition, Sentria, Sentria II, Avalir, Avalir 2 and Avalir Platinum.
Their job is to keep the bracket tracking straight as the nozzle rises and falls. When they wear, the height adjustment stops feeling like a mechanism and starts feeling like a fight: rough, sticky, sometimes catching partway and needing a shove to move on to the next setting. The nozzle can also sit slightly cocked, which shows up as uneven pile grooming across the width of the machine.
Two blocks come in the pack because they wear as a pair. Replace both sides at once and the height change goes back to being smooth and quiet.
