Kirby Handle Fork Back Cove...

Product details

This is the black rear cover plate for the handle fork on Kirby's Heritage machines, part 174584. It fits the Heritage II and Heritage II Legend, and also the Heritage 1HD and the Legend II.

The plate closes the back of the fork and protects what sits behind it. It is one of the first parts to suffer when a machine goes over or gets pushed hard into furniture, and the plastic goes brittle with age, so cracks tend to spread outward from the screw holes. Once it is broken the fork rattles, the edges catch on things, and the machine looks considerably worse than it actually is.

It is a straightforward and very visible improvement on an otherwise tidy Heritage. Check the screws while the plate is off, and go easy tightening them into the new one, since over-tightening into old plastic is what starts most of these cracks.
