Product details
Kirby part 103986 is the OEM motor field coil for the later Heritage II and the Legend machines - Heritage II, Heritage II Legend and Legend II. It is the fixed winding around the armature, and it carries the current that makes the motor turn at all.
Coils fail from heat and age, and the symptom is unambiguous: no rotation. The machine may hum, it may smell faintly of hot varnish, or it may be silent while the cord and switch check out perfectly. None of that is repairable in place - the winding is replaced or the motor is scrap.
This is deep motor work rather than a bolt-on job, so budget for a technician unless the motor is already apart in front of you. Check the model badge first: the Dual Sanitronic machines take a different coil.
