Part 672189 is the latch plate at the bottom of a Kirby handle fork - the plate that the handle locking mechanism bears against every time you set the handle upright or drop it flat.
It is a wear part in the truest sense. The plate ovals out at its holes or wears at the catch face, and the handle starts to feel sloppy: play at the base, a click that does not hold, a fork that rocks slightly against the body. Left alone, a worn plate accelerates wear in the ratchet parts working against it, and then a cheap repair turns into two.
Kirby carried it from the Generation 3 through to the Avalir 2 - G3, G4, G5, GSix, Ultimate G, Diamond Edition, Sentria, Sentria II, Avalir, Avalir 2 and Avalir Platinum. Worth doing alongside the ratchet lock if both have real hours on them.
