This is the maroon nozzle trim for the Kirby Legend II, genuine Kirby part 140488. It is the finishing strip along the front of the cleaning head, color-matched to the maroon bodywork the Legend II wore from the factory.
Trim on the nozzle does two things: it takes the knocks that would otherwise chip the casting, and it is the first thing anyone notices about the condition of the machine. Age is unkind to it. The material hardens, the corners split, and a piece breaks away, usually after one bump too many against a door frame.
Fitting the correct maroon part keeps the machine looking as it left the factory instead of patched with a black replacement. It fits in place of the original with no tools, and it is worth checking your model plate reads Legend II before ordering, as trim differs across the Heritage and Legend range.
