Part 112579S is the black switch terminal with insulator used on Kirby's classic uprights: the Tradition and Tradition 3CB, Heritage I, Heritage II, Heritage II Legend and Legend II. It is the connection that carries current at the on/off switch, with the insulator shielding it from anything metal nearby.
Terminals of this age corrode, and the insulator turns brittle and cracks. The symptoms show up as intermittent power: the vacuum cuts out when the machine is nudged, refuses to start until the switch is worked a few times, or runs and then dies. Heat discoloration around the connection is a telling sign.
This is mains wiring, so unplug the machine before touching it and hand the job to someone comfortable with electrical repairs. The terminal fits the original switch connection directly.
