Part B221-0700 is the large motor compartment seal used across the Riccar and Simplicity 4000 and 6000 series uprights, covering the Vibrance and Symmetry model lines. Unlike the small cover gasket, this is the full-perimeter seal around the motor compartment itself, keeping the suction side and the exhaust side of the machine from short-circuiting into each other.
When it flattens, air takes the easy route around the motor housing instead of through the filter stack, so the vacuum sounds normal but lifts noticeably less at the nozzle. It is worth fitting a new one whenever the machine is stripped down for a motor or fan change.
