The metal filter grate in the HiZero F100 Bionic Mop, part M69F1-00501, sits in the airflow path and stops larger debris before it reaches anything more delicate.
Grates load up with hair and packed grit, and a blocked one strangles airflow. Pickup gets noticeably weaker, the motor note rises, and the machine runs warmer than usual because it is fighting the restriction. Most of the time a grate cleans out and goes back in; you replace it when the mesh has been distorted, torn, or corroded to the point where debris slips past it.
It is worth pulling out monthly for a look, and replacing when cleaning no longer restores full flow. This is the F100 grate, so check the part number on yours before ordering, since the frames differ across HiZero's machines.
