Part 5812180 is the drive belt for the Miele SEB 228, SEB 234 and SEB 236 powerheads, carrying rotation from the powerhead's own motor out to the brush roll. Miele publishes this material number as a tooth belt, so it is a toothed belt rather than a plain flat loop.
A worn or split belt in one of these powerheads shows up as a brush that runs slower than it used to, rattles more than it should, or simply sits still while the motor is clearly still spinning. Fitting a new belt puts the roller back to full speed without opening up the rest of the powerhead.
The motor keeps drawing power and running whether the belt is intact or not, so a failing belt does not always announce itself right away, particularly on low-pile carpet where the canister's suction alone still lifts some dirt. Spinning the roller by hand after the new belt is on is the easiest way to confirm it is seated and turning evenly.
