Hide A Hose fits its SmartSoc hoses with a black mini cuff, and part HS5000H4 is the new style version of it, 1-1/4 inches across. The Rapid Flex hose takes a different cuff, the blue 1-3/8 inch HS5000H5, and the two are not interchangeable.
The cuff connects the hose to a Ready Grip Direct Connect handle and lets tool kit accessories push straight onto the hose end without a coupler. It also serves as the stop that catches the hose as it retracts into the valve, which is why a sock hose should not be sent back into the wall with the cuff missing.
To fit one, tuck a quarter to a half inch of the sock into the hose end, then screw the cuff into the hose counterclockwise until it seats firmly against the end. The cuff will take one or two o-rings as well, part HS500122, which add friction where the valve door closes against it.
Replace a cuff when the collar has cracked, when a tool no longer locks on securely, or when the hose stops halting where it should on retraction. Check that the new cuff seats to the same depth as the old one before sending the hose back into the wall.
