Part B470-2700B is the modified spring assist spring for MV-platform uprights — the individual spring that supplies the assist force in the tilt mechanism on Simplicity Synchrony and Riccar Brilliance machines. It is the component doing the actual work of carrying body weight as the vacuum reclines.

Springs fatigue. When this one weakens or breaks, the handle suddenly feels heavy, the body drops faster than it should, and the nozzle can lift off the carpet at the top of the stroke. Replacing the spring restores the intended balance without disturbing the axle shaft or the tilt lock.
