For something this small, failure gets expensive fast. Once the collar splits or drops out entirely, slack develops at the neck, and that slack quickly transfers into the wiring and airflow connections sharing the joint, both pricier to replace than the ring protecting them.

Pair this with the neck base if the joint is already open and both parts show their age.
