Carbon brushes are the wear item inside every vacuum motor — they press against the spinning armature to deliver current, and they're designed to slowly sacrifice themselves in the process. On an NSS M-1 dry pickup tank vacuum, worn-down brushes show up as heavy sparking inside the motor, intermittent cutouts, weak power, or a machine that won't start at all. Fitting fresh carbon brushes before the old ones wear to the spring saves the armature and adds years to a motor that would otherwise need replacing. Part #1094691.
