This is the drive belt for the Oreck Magnesium uprights, part 83002-01, fitting the LW100, LW1500RS and UK30500. It is the link between the motor shaft and the brush roll, and the cheapest part in the machine that can stop it cleaning.
A tired belt stretches before it snaps. The brush roll slows under load, so the vacuum glides over carpet without lifting anything out of it, and pet hair and grit stay put no matter how many passes you make. Push it further and you get the smell, hot rubber and unmistakable, followed by a belt that has parted and a brush roll that no longer turns at all.
Roll the brush by hand with the machine unplugged. If it spins freely with no resistance at all, the belt has gone. Keep a spare with the bags.
