This is the black hood for Perfect's power nozzle, part PPN1AB. It is the moulded upper shell that clips down over the brush-roll housing, closing the motor and its internal wiring off from dust, debris and knocks against furniture.
Sitting at bumper height against baseboards, table legs and door frames, the hood takes more physical abuse than almost anything else on a nozzle, so a cracked, chipped or snapped-off shell is a common replacement on a machine that otherwise runs perfectly well. Fitting a new one is a cosmetic and protective repair rather than a mechanical one: the brush roller, belt and motor mount underneath are unaffected by the state of the cover.
