This canister motor, part PB09, is the Ametek-made suction motor for Perfect's PB and PP series backpack and canister vacuums. It is the part that actually creates suction, since air drawn through the motor housing is what generates cleaning power at the hose end.
PB09 is the old-style motor for this machine. Perfect's parts listing for the Power Backpack splits the motor into two versions, the old style sold under this number and a new style used on units from 2016 onward, and the two are not the same part. Check the age of your machine, or the number on the motor already fitted, before ordering this one.
A backpack motor usually signals wear before it quits outright: rising noise or a grinding pitch, a burning odor after continuous runtime, weaker suction that a fresh filter and bag do not fix, or a motor that no longer spins freely when turned by hand with the unit unplugged. Because backpack units run for hours at a stretch in commercial cleaning, the motor is one of the first parts to wear out under that duty cycle.
