This grey Plastiflex hose cuff, part CU9225130, is the 1 3/8 inch fitting for the end of a central vacuum hose, and it carries a metal contact, the ring that closes the low-voltage circuit at the wall inlet and starts the power unit when the hose goes in. It is listed against the Plastiflex 1307.

Cuffs fail in two ways. The plastic cracks or loses its grip on the hose, so the joint leaks air and the cuff eventually stays behind in the inlet. Or the contact itself corrodes or wears thin and the machine stops starting reliably, so you find yourself twisting the hose in the inlet hunting for the spot where it catches.

Either symptom gets fixed at the hose end rather than inside the wall.
