The DC07 keeps a pre-motor filter under its cyclone, and F972 replaces it across the range: the standard machine plus the Animal, Low Reach and Full Gear versions.
These vacuums are old enough now that plenty of them are still running their original filter, and it shows. A DC07 with a clogged pre-motor filter gets hot to the touch around the cyclone, loses pull steadily through a job, and in the worst case shuts itself down partway across a room.
The filter lifts straight out of its cavity once the bin is off. Fitting a clean one is the cheapest thing you can do for a DC07's motor, which is the part that suffers when the air stops moving. Check the badge on your machine to confirm which DC07 you have.
