Windsor built the 14 inch Versamatic brush roll so its bristle strip can be renewed without replacing the whole roller, and part WM1R is that replacement insert, in red.
Bristles wear evenly across the strip, so the drop in performance tends to creep up rather than announce itself. A single pass leaves the pile looking flat rather than combed, pet hair stays trapped down in the fibers instead of pulling free, and getting the same result as before can take two trips over the same stretch of floor. Held next to a new insert, the old bristles read distinctly shorter and rounded at the tip rather than squared off, which is the giveaway a straight look at the roll often misses.
Because the insert is a wear item by design, checking bristle height against a new strip every so often catches the fade before it becomes obvious in the carpet itself, and doing that check takes less time than running the vacuum over a room twice.
