Product details
Handle release pedal for the Bissell 1739 upright, part 1611908. It is the foot pedal that unlocks the handle so the body can recline, pressed with a shoe several times a minute for the whole working life of the machine.
They break predictably. The plastic fatigues around the pivot, the pedal goes soft underfoot, and eventually it snaps or the return spring loses its seat. After that the handle either locks upright and will not recline at all, or flops about with no detent, which makes the machine awkward to steer and unpleasant to use under furniture.
Note the assembly order as you strip the old one out. The pedal, its spring and the catch have to go back in the same sequence for the pedal to spring back properly and the catch to hold.
