Left-hand pivot bracket for MV-platform Simplicity and Riccar upright vacuums, part B470-2200. This bracket is the structural anchor for the left pivot: it bolts to the machine body and gives the bushing something rigid to seat inside, which keeps that side of the joint from working loose during use.
These brackets typically fail by cracking rather than gradually wearing down, more often from a hard drop than from ordinary use, though enough years of being steered around by the handle will get there too. Once one side breaks, that pivot has nothing solid left to hold its position, and swapping in new bushings will not fix a wobble caused by a cracked bracket underneath them.
