The post filter seal for MV-platform Riccar and Simplicity uprights, part B480-4600. It closes the gap between the post filter and the housing that holds it, forcing exhaust air through the filter media instead of letting it slip around the edge.
This is a quiet failure. The vacuum still runs, the filter still looks clean, but a seal that has hardened, torn or gone missing lets a share of the air leaving the motor exit unfiltered. Anyone buying vacuums for allergy reasons is buying the seal as much as the filter.
