The PC board is the control brain of a central unit. It takes the switching signal coming from the inlet valves and the hose handle and decides when the motor runs. A failed board usually presents as a unit that will not start from any inlet, one that runs continuously, or one that cuts out at random while the motor itself is perfectly healthy, which makes testing the board worth the few minutes it takes before condemning something expensive.
