B434-3400 is a compression spring that sits behind the bag collar on Riccar and Simplicity uprights, catalogued across both the CC and DC parts groups. Steady pressure from this spring keeps the collar pressed firmly into place, which in turn holds the bag neck shut while the machine is running.

Once this spring weakens or is missing, three things tend to happen: the bag will not click fully home, it works itself loose mid-use, or fine dust leaks out around the neck even when the bag looks otherwise fine. Because the spring is hidden behind the collar, it can slip away during a routine bag change and go unnoticed as the actual cause of the leak.
