B236-0131 is the charcoal strain-relief boot that grips the power cord where it enters the vacuum body. The boot spreads the load of every tug on the cord across the housing, instead of letting that force pull directly on the wire terminals inside the machine.
Replacing a cracked or missing boot is a safety job as much as a cosmetic one. An unsupported cord flexes at a single point until the copper inside fatigues and fails.
