Retractable cord reel assembly, part B338-0600, for Riccar Prima and Simplicity Wonder canister vacuums. The reel holds the supply cord on a spring-loaded spool and feeds it through the slip-ring contacts, which is why a worn reel usually announces itself as a cord that will not rewind, retracts only partway, or cuts power when the cord is tugged.

Because the reel carries live current through its contacts, replace the whole assembly rather than splicing a damaged cord back onto a tired spool. Unplug the machine and let the reel unwind fully before you open the body.
