Part B338-0600 is the complete cord reel assembly Tacony lists for the Riccar Prima canisters and for the Simplicity Wonder range beside them. On the Riccar side the same number covers PRIMA.2, PRIMA.4SS, PRIMAP.2, PRIMAP.CPN, PRIMAP.FSN, PRIMAP.TAD, PRIMAP.TAP, R50SS, R50FSN and R50TAP, along with the matching Simplicity Wonder models.
A retractable reel does two jobs inside one housing. A wound spring takes the cord back in after use, and the cord has to keep carrying current while the spool turns, so a reel on its way out often shows up electrically before anything looks mechanically broken. A cord that refuses to retract, or draws back only partway before stalling, points at the spring. A machine that cuts out or flickers when the cord is tugged or the canister shifts points at the electrical side of the same assembly.
Since live current runs through this part, swap it in whole rather than splicing a fresh length of cord onto a worn spool. Before opening the housing, disconnect the machine from power and either let the cord retract all the way in or pull it all the way out, since the spring inside is under tension and can pinch fingers if the case is opened partway through a wind.
