A 40 Series upright runs two motors. The direct air unit drives the brushroll side of the tandem air system, while a separate clean air motor handles the rest, and a fault in one does not mean the other has gone with it. Symptoms that point at this motor include a burning smell under load, a rising whine, or brush-side airflow that never recovers after a bag and filter change. The companion clean air motor for 40 Series machines is stocked as D386-2700, and the matching motor cover with seal is D380-5714. Ships to you in 2-5 business days.
