D386-3000 is the direct air motor assembly for the 40 Series R40 and S40 uprights from Riccar and Simplicity, built on the PV2 platform. A direct air motor pulls air straight through the motor housing rather than through a bag first, which is part of why these uprights are rated for the airflow they carry when the machine is new.

Fading suction that does not improve after a bag change and a filter check, along with a change in motor sound, are the usual signs that point to the motor rather than to a clog or a full bag.
