Black household-grade strain relief, part B333-3014B, modified to fit Riccar and Simplicity machines. The strain relief is the clamp at the point where the power cord enters the body; it absorbs the pull when the cord is tugged from across a room so that force never reaches the internal connections.
When one is cracked or missing, the cord starts to move at the entry point, and repeated flexing right there is the usual beginning of an intermittent machine or a dead one.
