This is the large-diameter rubber sealing ring used at the hose connection on PV-platform Riccar and Simplicity Tandem Air uprights, catalogued as B355-1100. The ring sits in the groove at the joint and closes the gap between the two mating parts so airflow stays inside the duct rather than leaking around the connection.
A flattened, hardened or missing ring is one of the quieter causes of weak suction at the hose: the motor still runs normally, but part of the air the machine is pulling comes in at the joint instead of through the nozzle. Rubber takes a set over years of compression, so this is worth replacing whenever the hose or air-path parts come apart for service.
