Part B388-4900 is the rear motor strip seal for MV-platform Riccar and Simplicity uprights fitted with an Ametek Clean Air motor. The strip seal closes the gap around the back of the motor housing, keeping airflow moving through the intended path instead of drawing in around the edges.

Strip seals compress and harden with age and with heat the motor gives off, and a seal that has gone flat is easy to overlook because nothing about it looks obviously broken. The result is a gradual, hard-to-pin-down loss of suction on a machine that otherwise checks out fine, with no single symptom that points straight at the seal.
