Part B388-4900 is the rear strip seal that sits behind the Ametek clean air motor on MV series Riccar and Simplicity uprights. The seal closes the gap where the motor meets its mount, so air leaving the fan follows the exhaust path instead of escaping around the back of the motor housing.
Seals of this type flatten and harden with heat over time. When one loses thickness the motor sits slightly loose in its pocket, and the machine usually gets louder before it gets weaker, so it is worth renewing any time the motor is out for service.
