This is the replacement idler arm cover for Riccar and Simplicity upright vacuums, stocked as part B375-0214. The idler arm is the pivoting lever that keeps tension on the drive belt; this molded cover sits over that lever, shielding it from the carpet fiber and hair that collect in the belt area.
Covers get brittle with heat from the motor and belt, and a cracked one falls into the belt path where it can foul the pulley. There is no performance gain from a new cover on its own, but it keeps the tensioner clean and reduces the chance of debris jamming the mechanism.
