This foot pedal assembly releases the handle on the 20 Series uprights, covering the Riccar Vibrance R20 and the Simplicity Symmetry S20, sold as part D020-0700. A press pops the handle out of its upright lock, and standing the handle back up puts that same weight back on the pedal until the next release.
A worn pedal tends to show one of three signs: the handle drops on its own with no press at all, the pedal stays sunk in after your foot lifts, or the face where a shoe repeatedly lands has cracked through. None of these get better on their own, and all three trace back to this assembly rather than the handle itself.
