This is the outer cover housing for the Sanitaire and Eureka SC530 and SC535A backpack vacuum, the molded shell that closes over the motor and filter compartment and takes the brunt of the wear a backpack machine sees on a daily cleaning route.
A backpack vacuum spends its working life against someone's back, set on the floor between rooms, and occasionally dropped from waist height when a strap slips. The housing absorbs that impact, and it also keeps dust and debris sealed inside the compartment rather than leaking around the edges and settling on filter media where it does not belong. Once the shell cracks at a mounting point or a fastening point gives way, the seal around the compartment is compromised even if the machine still runs and still pulls air.
