Product details

The release pedal is the foot-operated lever near the base of the upright that lets you tip the handle back into cleaning position and lock it upright again for storage. On the S5000 platform that Electrolux-Eureka, Eureka, and Sanitaire all built machines around, this pedal and the catch it engages take more mechanical wear than almost any other part on the machine, since nearly every session starts and ends with a foot press.

Pedals in this position fail in one of two ways. The plastic pedal itself can crack at the pivot from repeated flexing, or the small catch it presses against wears rounded until the handle no longer holds upright and drifts forward on its own. Neither failure stops the vacuum from running, but a handle that will not lock upright makes the machine awkward to store, and it tends to get shoved into a closet at an angle that stresses the neck joint further.

This is a direct replacement, part A03836401, molded to the same pivot point and catch profile as the original pedal so it seats and locks the same way the original part did.

Swapping the pedal is a simple job that most owners can do at the workbench with a screwdriver, without sending the machine out for service. Before ordering, worth a quick check: if the pedal itself looks intact but the handle still will not hold upright, the internal catch it presses against may be the worn part rather than the pedal, and it is worth inspecting both before assuming which one has failed.
