Product details
Eureka and Sanitaire's widetrack commercial uprights take a hex-end VG II brush roll, sold as part 53271, built to the wider format so it covers more carpet on every pass than a standard-width roll does.
Widetrack and standard-width machines do not take the same roll, so measuring the roll you are pulling out and matching it against the replacement matters here more than it does on most brush rolls. The hex ends are keyed rather than round, which means the roll locates one way in its mounts, and clearing wound hair and thread from those ends regularly is what keeps drag off the bearings.
A worn roll shows itself as bristle tufts that have gone noticeably shorter through the center compared with the ends, or as bristles turned soft and splayed across their whole length. Past that point the machine is cleaning on suction alone, because the roller is no longer doing its part of the job loosening carpet fibers ahead of the airflow.
Check the drive belt for glazing while the base is already open for the swap, since a worn belt will undercut whatever agitation a fresh roll can otherwise deliver, and a belt swapped at the same time saves opening the base again a few weeks later.
