Charcoal secondary filter, part B388-0800B, for PV-platform uprights in the revised PV2 configuration. This is the odor-control stage rather than the primary dust stage: activated charcoal traps the sour smells that come from pet accidents, kitchen debris and a bag that sat too long, so the exhaust leaves the machine cleaner than the air that went in.
Charcoal media loads up quietly. There is no sudden failure to notice, just a slow return of odor on the exhaust, which is why most owners change it on a schedule alongside the bag and the post-motor filter rather than waiting for a symptom.
