Secondary filter screen for the MV-platform uprights sold as the Simplicity Synchrony and the Riccar Brilliance, stocked as part B480-3214. This perforated screen backs the secondary filter media, which keeps the media from bowing under the airflow and collapsing into the duct where it would restrict what the motor can pull.

Once a screen warps, tears its mesh, or loses its shape, the filter media behind it sags into the airflow path and suction drops even though the filter itself may still look usable. Check this screen whenever the secondary filter is replaced, since both wear on a similar schedule and are cheaper to handle in one pass than to reopen the housing twice. A screen that has stopped sitting flat also lets loose fiber and grit slip past the filter altogether, which is a much harder problem to spot than a filter that has visibly torn.
